Visa goes Mobile at Mobile World Congress

Visa goes Mobile at Mobile World Congress

I read with interest that Visa used 2D barcodes to create a unique mobile sweepstakes campaign to attendees of this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC). (http://www.mobilemarketingwatch.com/visa-uses-2d-barcodes-at-mobile-worl...)

The campaign encouraged visitors to download a barcode reader, snap a 2D barcode on the back of sample Visa cards to be taken directly to mobile website to answer an online question and enter a competition.

Speaking about the campaign, Diane Strahan, VP of Neustar said...

“A barcode is a call-to-action—it’s saying scan me, snap a picture of me, and brands love it because it’s a call-to-action that takes you straight up the marketing value chain. A barcode encourages consumers to take action, and Visa likes it because it can take you all the way to commerce."

This kind of proactive approach to innovative use of mobile technology only encourages us at SpotiD that we are on the right track. Our SpotExpo service allows Exhibitors, Speakers, Sponsors and Organisers to host similar campaigns and much much more using not just 2D barcodes, but also SMS, Email, Twitter, Mobile Web and soon Instant Messaging.

So in Visa's case we could have vastly improved their response rates to their campaign by expanding the number of supported channels that MWC attendees could have used to arrive at the same result.

As well as Visa's competition campaign, we have seen other uses of SpotExpo at Live Events ( Conferences, Exhibitions, Concerts, Festivals, etc ):

Allowing Visitors/Delegates to:

  • remember speakers and exhibitors they see while wondering around
  • submit questions to Speakers and Event Organisers
  • provide feedback
  • enter competitions
  • vote on publicised topics of interest
  • request presentations & brochures to be sent to their online account for review later
  • automatically create a post-show mini-guide of exhibitors/speakers that they bookmarked while at the show so they can revisit later

Allowing Exhibitors to:

  • have another avenue for warm lead capture
  • followup leads in real-time while at the show rather than weeks later
  • encourage delegates to visit their stand with incentives, gifts, prizes etc
  • go green - provide a way to deliver brochures/info electronically to those that want them
  • offer information to delegates in different languages

Allowing Speakers to:

  • offer the audience to obtain their contact details
  • bookmark their presentation and material for review later online
  • encourage the audience to visit their stand afterward the session
  • send session reminders
  • allow the audience to vote in real-time using their phones.
  • allow the audience to submit questions during the Q&A; section.

Allowing the Event Organiser:

  • a new revenue stream - offering a new Sponsorship package
  • a new revenue stream - shared revenue from exhibitor signups
  • complement their official show guides by allowing readers to request information from Ads they see
  • allowing visitors a fast way to register for the show
  • to offer to visitors to send feedback & comments about the show instantly
  • to offer to exhibitors to order food via SpotiD for lunch
  • to improve the visitor experience while at the show
  • to get an overview of the SpotiD activity for all exhibitors

We look forward to many more Live Events using SpotiD's SpotExpo in 2010.
